Enrollment Guidelines

After being accepted by both the Graduate College and the MATC Program, new students can expect to begin the enrollment process. The following provides guidance on students' next steps after acceptance.

Step 1

Register for Graduate orientation.

ATTEND NEW GRADUATE STUDENT ORIENTATION

After acceptance, new students will complete an in-person/online New Graduate Student Orientation designed to familiarize students with graduate life. The orientation will cover important topics, such as:

  • Navigating the online learning system of Canvas
  • Exploring campus and campus services
  • Getting started with campus technology and registration
  • Funding & Scholarships
  • Paying tuition
  • Working with a graduate advisor and mentor
  • How to manage your graduate study workload
  • Student health and wellness

JOIN THE MATC PROGRAM CANVAS PAGE

After attending the New Graduate Student Orientation you will receive an invite to join the MATC Program's Canvas page. Canvas is the central learning system you will use to navigate your courses and submit academic work. The MATC Program's Canvas page provides new students with resources specific to the program, including:

  • Degree program information
  • Faculty Information
  • Announcements
  • Tips for online success
  • General Help
  • Discussion Boards

MEET WITH THE PROGRAM ADVISOR

Now you are ready to meet with your program advisor to discuss your academic trajectory. During this meeting the program advisor will go over the following:

  • The specifics of the degree plan
  • Required introductory and pre-requisite courses
  • Tools to track your academic progress
  • How and when to apply for courses
  • Questions you may have

REGISTER FOR CLASSES

Finally, after meeting with your advisor, you are clear to register for classes. Full-time attendance is calculated at nine credit hours, while part-time attendance is calculated at six credit hours. After starting graduate courses it is recommended that you track your academic progress with the online audit system, Degree Works, and maintain frequent check-ins with the program advisor.
